Rebel Wilson set to write, direct, produce, and star in the comedy 'Girl Group'.

Best known for her roles in Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids, Wilson leads an ensemble cast that includes Randall Park (WandaVision) and BAFTA winner Sheridan Smith (Mrs Biggs). The film is produced by Live Nation Studios and Future Artists Entertainment.

In Girl Group, Wilson plays a chart-topping pop star who has been dropped from her own group’s reunion tour and handed a community service order. Determined to reclaim her spotlight, she agrees to mentor a group of teenage outsiders preparing for a major record label audition. Her relentless pursuit of success, however, pushes the girls too far and forces her to confront both the industry that shaped her and her own self-destructive tendencies.

Additional cast members include Jamie Lee O’Donnell (Derry Girls), Guz Khan (The Gentlemen), and social media star Loren Gray. Ashley Roberts (The Pussycat Dolls), Melanie Chisholm (Spice Girls), and Shaznay Lewis (All Saints) also appear, forming the fictional band Girlfriends alongside Wilson’s character.

Producers conducted a nationwide casting search across the United States to discover the young performers who will play the teenage girl group at the centre of the story. Their names have yet to be announced.

Choreography is led by Wicked collaborator Chris Scott, who serves as executive producer and supervising choreographer, with Leo Moctezuma and Ebony Williams acting as co-choreographers.

The film is produced by Wilson through her Camp Sugar banner, alongside Matt Williams for Future Artists Entertainment. Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino executive produce on behalf of Live Nation Studios.

Wilson described Girl Group as the “ultimate girl power movie,” adding:
“Ever since being part of the Pitch Perfect franchise, I’ve wanted to create something in that spirit. Girl Group is vibrant, joyful, and made to leave audiences singing and dancing as they leave the cinema.”

Kroft said the film aims to capture the enduring appeal of pop ensembles, while Williams described it as a celebration of confidence, resilience, and female empowerment.
